Attracting tech talent from Australia to NZ

On 17th September 2014 Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in partnership with offshore recruitment specialists Workhere New Zealand will launch a digital marketing campaign to attract top ICT talent out of Australia to New Zealand. The campaign will highlight New Zealand as a global leader in technology and innovation and encourage tech experts to apply for jobs in demand, here in New Zealand.

The campaign is being supported by Government and will run from 17 September to 31 October 2014. This joint initiative is being produced by Immigration New Zealand and Workhere with support from the New Zealand Technology Industry Association, Canterbury Development Corporation (CDC), Grow Wellington and ATEED (the Wellington and Auckland economic development agencies).

The marketing will target ex-pat Kiwis, Australian citizens and third party nationals currently working in Australia across the tech spectrum, including developers, project managers, business analysts, testers and associated support roles.

Candidates will be driven to the Workhere campaign site where current vacancies will be advertised for them to apply for. They can also find out about the NZ tech industry in general (including ICT, agri-tech, health-tech and high value manufacturing) and specifically why they would come to Christchurch. Wellington and Auckland will also be promoting their regions through this campaign. This will be achieved by delivering creative messaging through digital channels such as traditional job boards, job board aggregators, professional networking sites, social media channels and other prominent digital sites and is being done under the banner “Innovation Islands.”

This fits really well with the work CDC and the tech & manufacturing sectors have been doing to promote Christchurch as a great place to live, work and play – working with Workhere, the KEA (Kiwi Expats Abroad) network and Immigration NZ, as well as using search engine optimisation (SEO) for a campaign to promote Christchurch to potential migrant workers around the globe and this focus on Australia supports this nicely.
