Event One – SQL Saturday is a training event for SQL Server professionals and those wanting to learn about SQL Server. Admittance is free and lunch is provided, all costs are covered by donations and sponsorships.

Event Two – There is a precon event the day before, on Friday 15th April from 9am – 5pm. This is paid training at a cost of $250 per person. For the first time the Christchurch SQL Server User Group will be flying in an international speaker / educator especially for the pre con session – Architecting & Building SQL Server Solutions.
John Martin (@SQLDiplomat) is a SQL Server professional with over a decade of experience working with the SQL Server software stack, ranging from SME to large scale Enterprise and central government implementations. Currently working as a Sales Engineer for SQL Sentry, helping customers understand how to improve the performance and reliability of their SQL Server systems. Prior to working for SQL Sentry, John worked as a Premier Field Engineer (PFE) for Microsoft in the UK. Supporting, troubleshooting, and educating some of the largest UK, European, and Global customers on the best way to use SQL Server to meet their needs. Additionally working with SME businesses to health check and tune their systems to get the most out of them. John is a regular speaker at SQL Saturday and user group events in the UK, Europe and USA, along with speaking at PASS Summit and SQL Bits in the UK. Having worked as a DBA, Developer and Business Intelligence Developer, John has gained a wealth of experience on how to, and how not to, use SQL Server to deliver a solution.
