A presentation by Simon Sprince, UK Digital Specialist, and Ruzy Chishty, Crowd-funding and Start-up Expert.
Find out how UK Trade & Investment can support NZ businesses looking to grow in the UK. Simon will talk about the software, digital and e-commerce opportunities in the UK, including UK government funding and helpful industry networks. He explain current trends in the UK, and suggest possible locations for software/digital companies. Ruzy will talk about his experience as an entrepreneur and investor, and share his expertise in international business development for start-up companies, including crowd funding.
The event is aimed at companies with an interest in the UK digital sector, and specifically those who want to enter/grow in the UK market. This will be a great way for companies to get some free advice on UK opportunities and links them straight to the people who have the industry knowledge to help with any UK expansion.
The presentation will take about 30 minutes, and will be followed by networking drinks.
Below are bios of each presenter.
Simon’s background is in digital media with 20 years experience of content and application production. He first worked as an entrepreneur in the design and TV sectors, setting up a cutting-edge digital design agency at the very start of the commercial internet. He then moved into research and development as a leading member of the International Centre for Digital Content, a research partnership between universities and TV production agencies in the north-west of England. There he led numerous influential projects and helped to establish the UK’s first digital content dedicated business incubator.
Simon has an in-depth understanding of the digital industry’s key sub sectors as well as the technologies and markets that drive them. He specialises in analysing user & market trends, identifying the essential factors needed to influence the development of new products and services. After building up extensive experience of working at the intersection between industry and academia he set up Focus Innovation. The team at Focus concentrates on appropriate innovation, creating ‘digital solutions for real world problems’ by building consortia for projects that start with industry specialists, adding technical expertise and the necessary finance to produce well-informed and resourced start-ups. Focus Innovation works with some of the largest companies in digital media helping them to develop Open Innovation activities in order to meet the challenges of technology change. Simon also works with UK Trade & Investment as a specialist in the digital industry, helping companies understand the opportunities within the UK creative technology scene.
Ruzy Chishty is a Crowd Funding and Startup Expert focusing on sales, partnerships and international business development. Director of the Founders Institute in London and Founder/CEO of SeedAvenue and CrowdFundrs, Ruzy successfully transitioned from working in Fortune 500 companies and international development roles around the world to successful entrepreneur and investor. Ruzy has generated over $25M in business and has launched ventures in Asia (China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong), Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Ruzy has lived in six different countries including the US and is uniquely placed to advise start-ups on taking their businesses to the world.
