The Speed Freaks Charitable Trust has done some initial conceptual and scoping work and are seeking advice on how to move forward, as a for-purpose charitable organisation with a limited budget, in designing a functional app that will enhance their work to support people in recovery from addiction and mental distress through running, walking and community connection.
Last year Speed Freaks’ over 120 volunteers supported 1,500 people in Whangārei, Auckland, New Plymouth, and Christchurch, through 27 weekly programmes. Given their expansion and current use of third-party apps, they believe a customised app that supports them in coordination of volunteers, functionality related to session plans, attendance and access to resources, plus some social connection features, would greatly enable them in managing what they do now, and support further growth.
The Speed Freaks Charitable Trust was established in 2021, by registered social worker Anna Christophorou. Our genesis group began in 2017 with the first run group at Odyssey House.
The Trust supports recovery from addiction and mental distress through running, walking and connection. Our programme grows community, health, wellbeing and inclusion, delivered by volunteers and paid staff.
Available to residential and day service providers in Ōtautahi and Tāmaki Makaurau. We are keen to offer groups beyond these regions but are currently at resource capacity.
