3. Code of Conduct
a. A safe environment for all
Canterbury Tech is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members, attendees and participants during our events, whether held at our own facilities, our members’ offices or rented spaces. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for behaviour at our events and for members in general and sets forth the principles that govern our events.
b. Entry to events and conferences
Canterbury Tech reserves the right to refuse entry to any individual to its events for whatever reason. This can apply regardless of membership or ticket-holding status.
Refusal of entry may occur if an individual’s presence is deemed to be in violation of this Code of Conduct or if their behaviour poses a threat or perceived threat to the safety or well-being of others or the security or reputation of Canterbury Tech, member’s businesses or host venue. The decision of Canterbury Tech will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
c. Respect and Inclusion
Respect the diversity of all participants, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, sex, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation and background. Attendees should use inclusive language and avoid any form of discrimination, harassment, or offensive behaviour.
d. Professionalism
All members must maintain a high standard of professionalism in all interactions at events and with their interactions with Canterbury Tech. This includes by is not limited to:
– Not harassing or making other attendees uncomfortable.
– Showing respect for our committee, staff and volunteers in your interactions.
– Upholding the confidentiality of sensitive information shared by members or during events held at members’ offices.
– Not drinking to excess and ensuring you find suitable transportation home if you are over driving limits.
– Not interrupting the event or following lines of questioning that is combative or disrespectful.
– Not impersonating or passing off as a representative of Canterbury Tech.
e. Safety and Security
All attendees must follow health and safety guidelines and protocols provided. Canterbury Tech may assist the venue or host to read out the Health and Safety procedures where requested by the host organisation.
Attendees should report any safety concerns or incidents promptly to Canterbury Tech committee or staff.
f. Sexual Harassment
Canterbury tech has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. Sexual harassment includes but is not limited to unwanted advances, touching, requests for sexual favors, or any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature.
Participants who experience or witness sexual harassment are encouraged to report it immediately to Canterbury Tech Committee staff or event organizers. All reports will be treated confidentially and promptly investigated.
g. Respect for Property and Business
Attendees must treat the facilities and property of members’ offices and venues with care and respect.
Attendees must not enter areas of the venue that are not designated for the event and must not undertake any activity that might be perceived to impact on security of the host business or organisation.
Attendees must not engage in any activities that could:
– Bring potential damage to the reputation of Canterbury Tech, or
– Cause damage to property, or
– Disrupt business operations at the host location, or
– Cause actual or perceived security concerns
h. Compliance with Laws and Policies
Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, both at the host location and during Canterbury Tech events.
i. Communication and Feedback
We encourage attendees to provide constructive feedback to Canterbury Tech, either directly to committee and staff or through our post-event surveys to help improve our events and services.
We ask all attendees to address any concerns or conflicts in a respectful and non-confrontational manner to the Canterbury Tech committee or staff.
j. Dispute resolution
Generally if you have violated the Code of Conduct, you will be refused entry to events on an ongoing basis. Canterbury Tech has no obligation to notify you of any decision we make but may choose to let you know if you have been barred from events due to concerns about behaviour.
k. Consequences of Violations
Canterbury Tech reserves the right to take appropriate action, including but not limited to turning away or removing from event attendance, warning, suspension, or revocation of membership, if a member or attendee violates this Code of Conduct. Canterbury Tech may also provide a trespass notice or involve law enforcement if necessary.
l. Reporting Violations
If you witness or experience any violations of this Code of Conduct, please report them to staff or event organisers immediately. Reports can be made anonymously if preferred.
