Maiera Mazelev
Originally from the USA, I combine a love of outdoor exploration with a passion for innovation. My current journey is building an AI‑powered sustainability focused app, driven by my love for efficiency whilst utilising cutting‑edge tech trends. I believe in connecting people, sparking conversations, and inspiring innovation in Canterbury Tech’s community.
What specific expertise can you bring to Canterbury Tech Board?
I’ve spent most of my career in the tech world, starting in NZ as an Article Master Data Specialist for one of the country’s largest organisations, working with one of the biggest ERP systems globally. After a series of promotions, I took my skills on the road as a consultant, helping private and public sector clients embrace innovative solutions, from migrating systems to enabling their organisation to effectively adopt AI. I bring a rare mix of technical expertise, adaptability, and a passion for emerging trends, paired with a charismatic, optimistic personality that inspires collaboration.
What do you see are the top three opportunities to advancing the tech sector in Canterbury?
- Supporting members in upskilling: Equipping individuals with the knowledge and practical skills to confidently use emerging technologies like AI, data analytics, and automation.
- Strengthening collaboration: Fostering connections between other organisations, such as Startup Aotearoa or Prompt6, to support start ups, established companies, academia, and government to accelerate knowledge sharing and joint ventures.
- Growing talent pipelines: Inspiring and developing local talent through targeted education, mentorship, and clear career pathways (with a focus on encouraging females in STEM).
What would be your first point of action/suggestion on the Board if you were to be elected?
My first action would be to organise hands‑on workshops that support our tech community in building skills and confidence with emerging technologies. By creating practical, collaborative learning experiences, we can focus on boosting competency, inspire innovation, and strengthen Canterbury Tech’s role as a hub for knowledge sharing and growth.
