AGM 2025 Summary
Canterbury Tech’s 2025 Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 2 December 2025 at Retropolitan, Christchurch, bringing together members, partners, and our Board to reflect on the year’s transitions, achievements, and strategic progression for our tech community.
Chair Michelle Shirtcliffe highlighted 2025 as a foundational “Create” year, focusing on streamlining resourcing, boosting member benefits, and securing a stronger financial footing. Key milestones included a digital brand overhaul with re-platformed websites, a highly successful Tech Summit at Te Pae with 600 tickets sold, and a newly structured, accessible annual sponsorship framework designed to support local small-to-medium enterprises.
The Treasurer’s Report confirmed that despite a challenging macroeconomic climate, Canterbury Tech remains in a solid financial position. Robust event performance has successfully established a resilient financial baseline, while net profits and cash reserves are actively trending upward due to careful operational cost management.
The AGM also marked significant governance updates. A new constitution was formally adopted by special resolution to ensure mandatory compliance with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 ahead of the statutory 2026 deadline. Additionally, the Board extended its deepest gratitude to outgoing members Danielle Jones and Kahn Mitchell for their years of exceptional service, and formally welcomed newly elected sector leaders Peter Barrowclough and Miho Tanaka Gumpp to the Board for 2026.
Canterbury Tech thanks all sponsors, partners, and volunteers for their ongoing support, and looks forward to another year of creating an inclusive, united, and thriving space for our tech community to connect.
