Natalie Wilson
I am the founder and CEO of Empire9, a Christchurch-based digital marketing agency that I’ve led for 11 years. With over 20 years of experience in technical digital marketing – SEO, SEM, and analytics – I’ve delivered innovative, data-driven solutions across diverse industries. My expertise lies in leveraging technology to drive measurable business growth. As a proud sponsor of the Tech Summit, I actively support the local tech community. With a strong technical foundation and proven leadership, I’m eager to contribute to a board that shares my values and enthusiasm for positioning Canterbury as a global leader in tech innovation.
What specific expertise can you bring to Canterbury Tech Board?
I understand the challenges and opportunities across a number of industries, giving me a broad perspective on innovation and scalability. I offer strategic insight, digital marketing expertise, financial/commercial acumen, strong communication skills, entrepreneurial experience, leadership skills, a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion, and a passion for connecting businesses with emerging tech opportunities.
What do you see are the top three opportunities to advancing the tech sector in Canterbury?
- Talent Development: Expanding training and mentorship programs to build a pipeline of skilled professionals in emerging technologies.
- Industry Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships between tech companies, education providers, and local businesses to accelerate innovation and knowledge sharing.
- Global Positioning: Promoting Canterbury as a hub for technical excellence and digital solutions, attracting investment and showcasing success stories internationally. These priorities will drive innovation, create high-value jobs, and position Canterbury as a leader in future-focused industries.
What would be your first point of action/suggestion on the Board if you were to be elected?
My first step would be to engage with the board to fully understand Canterbury Tech’s current strategy and priorities. From there, I’d collaborate to identify where my expertise adds the most value. I’d propose initiatives to amplify member engagement and raise Canterbury Tech’s profile – such as assisting with programme development for the next Tech Summit and leading efforts to sell out the event. These actions would help ensure profitability while strengthening the local tech ecosystem.
