Fuelling Innovation Over Food: Inside G&T Catering’s Next Chapter
Some of the finest breakthroughs, sharpest collaborations, and most honest conversations across the Canterbury tech ecosystem do not begin in front of a whiteboard – they happen over good food. For family-owned business G&T Catering, making moments like these effortless has been the mission since founders Gabi and Tom Lawson first fired up the kitchen in 2014.
Today, G&T crafts delicious, fuss-free catering and beverage experiences for teams across Canterbury. Whether it is an everyday team morning tea, an executive strategy session, or a multi-day conference, their focus has always been simple: taking the friction out of corporate hospitality.
“Too often, organising event catering comes with hidden line-item fees, rigid menus, and guesswork around timing,” explains Tom. G&T tackled that frustration head-on with transparent, all-inclusive pricing, versatile menus that easily accommodate varied dietary requirements, and reliable delivery right when busy teams need it.
A Permanent Home at Larcomb Vineyard
The team recently marked their biggest milestone yet: purchasing the picturesque Larcomb Vineyard alongside their extended family. While G&T has proudly leased the kitchen and venue space here since 2017, taking full ownership of the entire property firmly cements their long-term future in the region and turns an already cherished spot into a permanent family home base.
Owning Larcomb gives G&T the best of both worlds. They will continue to run their agile, off-site mobile catering right across Christchurch and Selwyn, while continuing to offer this dedicated, scenic destination for local businesses looking to host off-site planning days, awards evenings, and end-of-year celebrations in style.
Grounded in Community and Social Value
What truly sets G&T apart is a generous social conscience woven into their day-to-day operations. Beyond using sustainable, recyclable packaging and fostering a supportive, welcoming environment for people from all walks of life, the business actively directs value back into the local community.
Through their partnership with Upstream NZ, five percent of every eligible invoice spend is funnelled directly into local youth initiatives. As well as being the catering sponsor for Canterbury Tech, they are also proud supporters of Mainland Football and the Inspire Foundation, and deliberately source from purpose-driven suppliers – pouring Common Good coffee and serving 27 Seconds wine at their events.
For G&T, sponsoring Canterbury Tech is a natural alignment of values. “Innovation and collaboration naturally flourish when people come together over food,” says Tom. “Partnering with Canterbury Tech gives us a fantastic avenue to fuel the creators, founders, and teams driving our regional economy forward, while building authentic, lasting relationships”
Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond
As hybrid and flexible working continue to reshape how companies operate, Gabi and Tom believe intentional hospitality has never been more relevant. When teams make the effort to gather in person, providing thoughtful, wholesome food turns an ordinary meeting into a genuine culture-building event.
Looking ahead, G&T has plenty of momentum on the boil. This month marks the rollout of brand-new seasonal corporate menus, alongside an upgraded CRM and a streamlined online ordering portal designed to make booking quicker and simpler than ever.
