- Mentor Programme 2 – Workshop and Q&A
- Thursday 25 June 2020

You may have seen that our second mentor programme for 2020 – ‘Career Start’ is open for applications. It is designed to support people looking for their first tech job in Canterbury. We’ve had a lot of mentee interest from students and new immigrants, so, now we need more mentors to work with these people. Please consider applying to be a mentor, and/or ask your industry colleagues to join us too!
You may be thinking that you’re not qualified to be a mentor. If you’ve been in the industry for a few years and have some empathy for those trying to get their foot on the professional ladder then we think you’re probably going to be just fine as a mentor, so why not give it a go! If you’ve only joined the industry yourself within the last few years and perhaps were new to NZ or Canterbury when you did – we definitely want you!
Either way, we’ll support and provide you with resources if it’s your first time as a mentor.
Mentors usually get as much out of mentoring as the mentees, so don’t be thinking it’s a one-way street. On the contrary, it can be immensely satisfying to connect with another person who aspires to work in the tech sector and help them on their way. During the 12-week programme, the mentee will challenge you almost as much as you challenge them!
To help you understand what’s involved and enable you to ask some questions, we’re going to run a short workshop and Q&A session at 11 am on Thursday 25th June. Please complete the simple registration here and join us via Zoom on Thursday. Please contact us at MentorProgramme@canterburytech.nz if you have questions or to apply directly to the programme as a Mentor, click here.
