Pathways to Tech

Tech Sector Information Events

Canterbury Tech with the support of various partners aims to run a series of ‘Pathways to Tech’ events to raise awareness of the diversity of career options in our local technology sector aimed at school students.

We will connect students from years 7-13 and their parents and whanau, to some of the available careers in tech by using young tech industry professionals to describe their roles and working lives. We will also invite school career advisors and teachers, given their roles in influencing study and career choices.

The Objective of these Events

  1. To educate and inform school-age students, whanau, career advisors and teachers about the range of careers available in the technology sector, the salary prospects and the projected shortfall of skilled workers over the coming years.
  2. To profile young industry professionals and their companies, such that we raise the profile of tech career possibilities in Canterbury and the West Coast.
  3. To hear from local tech employers about their career paths, places of work and desired skills and attributes they look for in employees.
  4. To increase the proportion of year 7-13 students considering a career in tech.
