Canterbury Tech’s event stance within the NZ Covid-19 Protection Framework (Traffic Light System) – 1.12.2021

| Canterbury Tech

The NZ government has signalled for some time that a transition to a new Covid 19 Protection Framework was on the cards (aka the traffic light system). Like many organisations, Canterbury Tech has been considering our stance on the matter of vaccination status with respect to our in-person events, not least because our AGM and Quiz Night is on December 7th, and our postponed Tech Summit is planned for 26th January.

We are fully committed to operating our events within the current framework and as safely as possible.  Without My Vaccine Pass, the new protection framework does not allow event organisers to run in-person events at Red or Orange and imposes a limit of less than 100 people at 1metre distancing at Green. Our decision is therefore that we will adopt My Vaccine Pass for all Canterbury Tech in-person events from 11:59pm on 2nd December until further notice.

Regrettably, this will exclude those who choose to remain unvaccinated and/or do not have My Vaccine Pass, however failure to adopt a clear stance on this matter would prolong the uncertainty and mean we’d be unable to hold in-person events at present, and we are not prepared to accept that.

We apologise in advance if this means we may not see you at our in-person events for the next wee while.  Where possible we will look to record and or stream our monthly events so you can still participate.

Communicating this stance now will maximise the chances of Canterbury Tech holding in-person events over the coming months, and give members and all others who wish to attend some certainty around the conditions under which they may do so.

Thank you.
